Blade Runner 2026

A rain-soaked neon street, within a dystopian cityscape.

Project Specifications

Blade Runner 2026 is a cinematic environment study of a rain-soaked neon street at night, inspired by the dystopian cityscapes of the films.

The aim was build a realistic, lived-in world that effectively delivers the dystopian mood. To me, at a base level this represents wet reflective asphalt, neon signs, scattered trash and the idea of peaceful chaos anchored together by a lone figure.

Scattering assets

Assets from the “trash” collection were scattered using a geometry node system driven by weight paint. Within the same system was an automatic distribution of the rock collection. Manual placement was used for assets nearing the camera and in key locations.

Wind driven movement was created using the Blender plugin Easy Wind allowing the use weight paint to create subtle movement, curating the plugin parameters to my needs. The same approach was used in the cable movements. However for the character on the ledge’s hair flow, I utilised a method incorporating a displacement modifier.
